The NIHS in partnership with Consultants (HSE Mid-West) and Senior Researchers at the University of Limercik deliver a range of Applied Health Sciences Programmes to private sector companies on an ongoing basis. Over the past six years we have delivered several successful programmes for medical device companies in the region. Such bespoke programmes are designed to compliment successful product engineering and the development of knowledge relevant to medical device application.

Sample areas covered in recent programmes include:

• Cardiovascular system
• Urology
• Gasteroenterology

Each course details the anatomy, physiology and pathophysiology of each system. Additional topics covered in include diagnosis and intervention (surgical and medical). Modes of delivery are lectures, tutorials, insitu visits to the hopsital laboratories, clinics and theatres. Where feasible programmes are as interactive as possible.

Participants of the programme can be asessed by a combination of:

• viva voice
• in programme assigments
• multiple choice questionnaires
• written exam

Where the appropriate criteria are met programmes can be accredited by the University of Limerick.
